Our Story
How it began
We had our first date at Green Point in Brighton Beach on Mother's Day in 2024. We hoped to see the rare southern lights that night, the Aurora Borealis. Little did we know that in that moment it was the beginning of forever.
Gavin had just had his second ACL surgery, still limping on their first date after doing his knee in a 50:50 tackle in a Dandenong Thunder NPL game. They met at similar times in their lives — Gavin had just bought his first home in Mentone, while Ming had bought her first home in St Kilda. They realised this when they went separately to buy new mattresses for their new homes!
While they wanted to enjoy their new homes independently, it wasn't long into their relationship that they decided to move in together into the St Kilda home.
Who made the first move? How?
He made the first move and texted me on New Year's Day. A few hours later, we'd locked in dinner that week.
What's your most memorable date?
One of our first dates was cycling and then kayaking around the islands near Pulau Ubin. Our guide joked that a few hours in a tandem kayak will test any relationship — and he was spot on! But we made it, and that adventure is still one of our favourite memories.
What's your favourite thing to do together?
We love walking by the water and cycling through the park!
Where are you off to for your honeymoon?
Anywhere with stunning beaches! Maybe the Maldives — before it's all underwater?
What's the best meal you've had together?
We treated ourselves to a five-course dinner in Paris. It was pure magic.
What's the most memorable trip you've taken together?
Last April, we saw the Northern Lights in Norway. Absolutely unforgettable!
